Overview
The Interdisciplinary Education using the Visual History Archive (VHA) of the USC Shoah Foundation Institute helps undergraduate, high school and middle school educators integrate the VHA into their classroom curricula and helps researchers use the VHA as a research tool. The program provides informational sessions and trainings to educators, researchers and the public to encourage use of this valuable research and educational tool. The USC Shoah Foundation VHA is a video archive of testimonials from Holocaust survivors and witnesses available to the faculty, staff and students at UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University, and North Carolina State University through RENCI. The archive is available to the general public from any of the three campus networks. RENCI expands this project beyond the Triangle universities by offering portions of the archive on DVD to local schools and community groups. The VHA is an important historical resource that can enhance many fields of learning and research, including history, language, literature, art and the sciences.
RENCI has developed interdisciplinary curricula using excerpts from the VHA that is used by middle and high school teachers to enhance their curricula in history, languages, art, literature, social sciences and other areas. The curricula is introduced to teachers through training programs and informational sessions. RENCI experts also conduct training and informational programs for researchers and educators at the three Triangle universities with access to the archive on using the VHA to enrich classroom learning experiences and to help with research. RENCI has developed multimedia resources and materials to aid teachers and provide technical support.
