Overview
The mission of the MSI Network is to increase access to, awareness and utilization of advanced computing and communication technologies within communities that have been traditionally underrepresented in the technology revolution. These communities include faculty, students and staff at minority serving institutions (MSIs), which include Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs). Members of the network chart a path for other MSIs interested in the use of advanced technologies on their campuses. They show the larger MSI community the possibilities of advanced technologies and inspire them to think of ways to use these technologies at their institutions.

The MSI Network is part of a larger, coordinated effort to bring advanced technologies to all the diverse groups of people who comprise our society and to encourage all people to participate in creating and using these technologies.

The MSI Network is led by Stephenie A. McLean, RENCI’s Director of Education and Outreach. McLean founded the organization and has been working with faculty, IT staff and students at MSI institutions via the Access Grid for five years. RENCI hosts local workshops and national Access Grid seminars with MSIs and is working to ramp up a North Carolina MSI Network Initiatives.
