David Colagiovanni teaches new media and video-art at UNC Chapel Hill and is the Artist in Residence at the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center at UNC Chapel Hill. He holds a master of fine arts from UNC Chapel Hill, a bachelor’s in studio art, sculpture and performance from the University of Maine, and studied painting and drawing at Lorenzo De Medici, Florence, Italy, and at Savannah College of Art and Design. Colagiovanni’s work spans digital film, 3D design, sculpture, photography and animation, and his experimental videos and installations often combine found and everyday objects with cutting-edge technologies. His work as a solo artist and with artistic collaborators has been featured at exhibitions and galleries across the U.S., including Morehead Planetarium and Lump Gallery in Raleigh. His work at Morehead Planetarium includes using RENCI’s 4K-resolution video camera from RED to explore ways to use super high-definition video on the planetarium’s new digital dome.
