About RENCI at UNC Chapel Hill

Established in the summer of 2007, The Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) at UNC Chapel Hill is an integral component of the RENCI statewide virtual organization. It supports the teaching, learning and research pursuits of UNC faculty, students, staff and partners. RENCI at UNC Chapel Hill works closely with the researchers at the RENCI anchor site (100 Europa Drive, Chapel Hill) to leverage expertise, resources and capabilities to address issues and problems that affect the state, region and country. This center uses high-resolution and 3-D visualization technologies and advanced computational methods to explore issues in science, engineering, the arts, humanities and social sciences.

Mission values

  • Provide full spectrum of reliable and secure technology support to RENCI partners on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill to support collaborative projects.
  • Encourage an atmosphere of experimentation using advanced technologies and visualization.
  • Embrace experimental and leading-edge technology initiatives and strive for the highest level of infrastructure in both virtual and physical learning and research environments.
  • Explore new research areas and help develop new collaborations to expand and enhance the RENCI mission and research interactions between RENCI and the UNC Chapel Hill campus.
