Additional help

The following four categories of application packages are available for use on the Research Computing servers. For some software packages, you can install a local copy of the software by checking out a license from the license server when invoking the software. [ https://software.unc.edu ] UNC Software Acquisitions Office is your best resource for information about how each application is licensed and can be installed locally. The following links below describe in details about software available for use on the Research Computing servers.

  • [ http://help.unc.edu/?id=4238 ] Science : provides researchers with programming tools and software for a list of scientific disciplines, such as Quantum Chemistry, Molecular Dynamics, Material Science, NMR, X-ray Crystallography, Structural Biology, Bioinformatics, etc.

  • [ http://help.unc.edu/?id=6226 ] Geographic Information System (GIS) : Research Computing group licenses GIS application for use in teaching and research environments, but our support for the individual software package is limited.

  • [ http://help.unc.edu/?id=4168 ] Mathematics and Statistics : provides access to a variety of mathematical and statistical tools and software, including Mathematica, Maple, Matlab, R, SAS, Stata, etc.

  • [ http://help.unc.edu/?id=4621 ] Visualization : provides access to a set of programs for general purpose visualization, molecular display, 3D rendering, etc.
