Technology

Advancing Solutions

Technology is a recurring theme at the RENCI at UNC Asheville Engagement Site. Although technology itself cannot solve problems, it aids our ability too. RENCI at UNC Asheville provides a broad range of technologies for testing and prototyping. Visual technologies at the Enka Engagement site include a Vis Wall, Immersive Dome, Plasma TV's, video conferencing, high powered servers and a wide range of cutting edge software.

State-of-the-art servers housed and maintained by ERC Broadband and connected to the NC REN fiber network will enable a stronger collaboration between Buncombe County and the City of Asheville. Buncombe GIS and MapAsheville, the County and City ArcIMS servers, will combine into one RENCI at UNC Asheville Server. The new Arc IMS server will provide multiple types of satellite photos, 3D views of topography, as well as county and city specific layers. The high powered server connected to high speed broadband will make this geospatial tool operate at a robust level while providing the service to users statewide.
