Rob Fowler
Chief Domain Scientist, High Performance Computing
Renaissance Computing Institute
My research interests center on distributed and parallel computing,
including architectures, operating systems, performance evaluation,
and programming environments.
MY current research focuses on high performance computing on modern,
high-performance processor chips. This means getting the best possible
on-node performance when the machine is built from the latest generation
of multi-core, possibly heterogeneous, processors. It also means scaling
out to systems with millions of threads.
To deal with systems of such internal complexity and unprecedented
scale requires performance instrumentation and analysis to diagnose
problems, as well as programming models, compilers, and execution environments
that either solve the complexity and scale issues automatically, or that
provide programmers with the tools they need to do it themselves.
