Overview
RENCI acquired an immersive media camera system that captures 360-degree high definition images from a moving vehicle. The system is being tested for its usefulness in rapidly assessing disaster situations from both a car and a helicopter. RENCI has acquired a variety of datasets to test the system, including visual data of the UNC Chapel Hill campus, and public buildings in Raleigh. Before the start of the 2009 hurricane season, RENCI will capture comprehensive visual data of the North Carolina coastline so that emergency responders will have a complete “before” picture of the coast in case a hurricane should strike.
